Opening a previous conversation puts the focus in the question field, so a follow-up can be typed right away. Before, a conversation opened from the Continue card, a row under Earlier conversations, or the history view opened from the start screen left the focus nowhere.
Opening a previous conversation shows the question field in its place under it right away. Before, the field slid down from the start screen while the conversation was already shown. A first message sent from the start screen, and going back to it, still slide the field. Its border and focus ring change at once too, without their transitions, and back in the conversation just left its follow-up button shows at once instead of fading in.
Picking a conversation, on the start screen or in the history view, marks it as opening in place: the card or row fades to its dimmed look, stays lit, and a thin line runs along it while it loads. Before, the whole list was drawn again, which made it blink and dropped the pointer's hover for a moment, so a row's icon square flashed grey.

A previous conversation arrives calmly: the start screen fades out quickly and the newest messages rise a few pixels into place, one after the other. Nothing moves when the user asks for reduced motion.
